Here are a few commands that are especially useful for reducing the storage space your inbox consumes, listed below. You can use search filters for all sorts of things to help weed out unnecessary email, and Google lists a number of them on its Gmail search support page. The Gmail search box at the top of your screen will do more than just search for keywords. How to filter emails in Gmailįiltering, you say? Yes, absolutely. The Updates tab usually hides messages from apps and other services I consider important, so I don’t often delete those emails without some consideration and further filtering. I usually consider email notifications in my “Forums” folder expendable, and I tend to do the same with my Social tab, too. Now you can decide if you want to delete email in other Gmail tabs, too. (Unfortunately, you can’t see how much storage capacity all of thar accumulated email in your Trash folder takes up.) Once you manually delete those emails, they’re gone forever! That will lower your storage allotment-but there’s no going back now. If you want, you can click the Empty Trash now message at the top of your Trash email list to delete all of those emails, once and for all. You can delete all of the email sitting in your Trash folder using this button-but once you do, it’s gone forever. Next, from the ribbon of icons above the tabs, click the small checkbox icon at far left, like so: To begin the process, first click the Promotions tab (the label will show as a color rather than gray). (If you want to delete email selectively, skip to the section below.) Take a last look through a few pages, to ensure that you want to do a wholesale purge. I usually purge everything in my Promotions tab first-it’s almost-but-not-quite spam. The implicit message here is that Google already considers the email that’s stored in your Primary tab as the email you actually need -everything else can probably be sacrificed. The easiest way to delete unwanted email from Gmail is to use Google’s built-in section tabs within Gmail, which already filter email into several sections: your Primary tab (your main inbox), followed by Social, Promotions, Updates, and Forums. Consult your Google One storage tab to find out how close you are to your limit, and how much you’ll want to delete.

Excess peroxide and earwax can be flushed out with warm water in the shower or using a bulb syringe. In general, you should use five to ten drops in each ear no more than twice per day for four days. Make sure to read the directions on the package carefully, and listen to your doctor’s instructions. Anything over 10% may cause irritation such as blistering and burning. Look for concentrations under 10% most OTC hydrogen peroxide solutions contain 3% hydrogen peroxide, and most OTC ear drops contain 6.5% carbamide peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide-based eardrops have a good safety profile when used properly. Carbamide peroxide, a common form of hydrogen peroxide ear drops, releases oxygen into the earwax, causing it to bubble and soften. Over-the-counter (OTC) eardrops may contain various types of hydrogen peroxide and other substances that work together to soften earwax. Impacted earwax should ideally only be removed by a hearing professional. Signs of impaction include earache, itchiness, drainage, infection, dizziness, tinnitus and hearing loss. People who use hearing aids, frequently wear earbuds, swab their ears with Q-tips or have a structural abnormality of the ear canal are especially prone to impacted earwax, but it can happen to anybody. In some cases, earwax can become impacted. Typically, earwax is naturally pushed out of the ear thanks to natural jaw movements when talking and eating. Earwax keeps the ear canal lubricated to prevent dryness and irritation, and it also traps dirt and debris to prevent infection. Prevention may be the best way to treat this problem.Earwax is a substance produced by the ceruminous glands in the ear canal that has several important jobs. Taking a high-quality animal-based omega-3 supplement, such as krill oil, or eating foods high in omega-3s, such as sardines, anchovies, and wild-caught Alaskan salmon, may remedy excess earwax buildup. Debrox works in a similar manner in that it softens, loosens, and removes earwax.Īs a final note, a frequent build-up of earwax can often be traced to an omega-3 deficiency. The over-the-counter Debrox (carbamide peroxide) could be used in place of my remedy. This tickling sensation disappeared after about 10 minutes. The only adverse effect I felt was a residual slight itch or tickle that was created from the bubbling of the hydrogen peroxide. This may need to be done a couple of times a day for a few days to gain similar results. After an additional 5 to 10 minutes when the bubbling from the peroxide subsided, I sat up and used the towel to rub my ear a little bit to relieve the tickle that the hydrogen peroxide created and to wipe out the oil and peroxide from my outer ear.įollowing those simple steps immediately cleared the earwax blockage from my ear, and my muffled hearing went away entirely. After about 10 minutes, I poured a capful of 3% hydrogen peroxide into my ear to flush the wax out.Ĥ. I placed a few drops of olive oil in the affected ear to soften the wax. I laid on my side and placed a towel under my headĢ. Here are the steps I took, with the help of my husband:ġ. Instead of running to my local drugstore, I gathered a couple of common household items to immediately implement an easy remedy to clear my earwax build-up. In my situation, I was concerned only because I had to go to work at the pharmacy in an hour and my muffled hearing was annoying. Once the earwax reaches the outer parts of the ear, it is washed away during bathing or it just falls out. The migration of the earwax is helped along by movements of the jaw, such as when one talks or chews food. Extra earwax should move out of the ear canal on its own, because cells in this location of the body migrate naturally. Ideally, the ear canals should never have to be cleaned. It is important to note that ears are self-cleaning. Also, I did not have any of the tell-tale signs of a perforated eardrum, which per the Mayo Clinic can include ear pain that may subside quickly clear, pus-filled, or bloody drainage from the ear hearing loss ringing in the ear known as tinnitus a spinning sensation known as vertigo and nausea and vomiting that can result from vertigo. I knew I had not perforated my eardrum because I did not insert the cotton-tipped swab far enough into my ear. I immediately knew I had pushed the earwax further into my ear instead of removing it, because within seconds my hearing was clearly muffled. I know better than to use any kind of probing device in my ear, but I have admittedly used the same cleaning technique for years with no issues. I used a cotton-tipped swab to try to clean the wax out. Last week, I broke the cardinal rule when it comes to trying to remove earwax build-up. It can be the aggressor against Delirium and Torrential Gearhulk and play the control role against Zombies or Winding Constrictor. Temur Energy is the midrange-est midrange deck in the format. Most cards in the deck are worth more than a card as a result, most of what is happening here is going to naturally out-grind anything, synergy aside. The Good: This deck does almost the same thing every game. If you’re experienced with the archetype, jam. This makes it easier for control decks to have profitable Sweltering Suns and Fumigate turns, despite Dread Wanderer, Scrapheap Scrounger, and Relentless Dead all being in the deck.įinal Verdict: Zombies being proactive makes it incredibly attractive, but everybody gunning for it makes me skeptical to play it without a large number of reps with the deck. Diregraf Colossus and Cryptbreaker are the best ways to net cards, but they both require their controller to overcommit in order to get much of a payoff. This makes the deck flounder against control despite appearing to crush it on paper. In short, everybody should know how they can perform against Dread Wanderer and company.ĭespite a host of sticky threats, Magma Spray can give the deck fits. This means that it is sort of the litmus test that everybody will be using to know if they can compete in the format. Metallic Mimic might be embarrassing, but it sure gets a heck of an upgrade post-sideboard when it Animorphs into Scrapheap Scrounger. Zombies is comfortable sitting back and letting Diregraf Colossus and Cryptbreaker take over while the opponent has trouble finding good attacks.Īgainst control, most of the creatures in Zombies are sticky, and given time they will overpower almost everything in front of them. It’s hard to “just kill their things.”Ĭreature decks have a hard time fighting their efficiency and the low-to-the-ground creature decks are outclassed too quickly for them to reasonably fight on an axis they’re comfortable fighting. The Good: Zombies is proactive and resilient. With zero tournaments since the recent banning of Aetherworks Marvel, people are still trying to figure out what is going on and what they should be playing. I’m rarely formulaic in my writing, but I’ve got a lot of information to cover here and want to talk about (almost) everything I’ve playtested for the tournament, what I learned, and why one should or shouldn’t look to play a deck. My recent decision to leave my day job and pursue Magic full-time has afforded me the free time required to test a wide range of decks in the format. Sticking to the same archetype isn’t something I do, and outside of Legacy Prowess, there isn’t any specific deck that I’m really known for championing. I’ve played a plethora of archetypes in my day. We didn’t arrive here overnight, and it’s a process, but what is the process like?įor some people, they lock into their decks early on in testing and work on tweaking said archetypes for the duration of their testing, learning the ins and outs of a single strategy, all in the hopes of being able to out-maneuver whatever they play against, even if it’s a bad matchup. The tournament is tomorrow and most of us are going to be locked in on our decks by now. Of course, the fact that stimulus funds are being expedited is a good thing, because while the new relief bill clearly includes a host of provisions designed to help the public, the rest of that aid won't go out immediately. And, it's possible that payments will linger into May given the number of people who are in line for those checks. Rather, they'll be staggered so that while some people may get a check or debit card in the mail later in March, many recipients won't get their stimulus until April. Like the previous stimulus round, recipients will either get a check or a debit card with stimulus funds, but those can't all go out at once. Stimulus funds that need to go out by mail, however, are a different story. Though not all direct deposits will go out at once, it's fair to say that those getting their money electronically will see it well before the end of March. As such, those eligible for an electronic funds transfer could see that money hit in a matter of days. The IRS has a well-oiled system in place for sending out stimulus payments by direct deposit. In fact, the White House announced yesterday that stimulus funds could start hitting Americans' bank accounts as early as this weekend. But while the public may need to wait to receive some of that aid, stimulus payments won't be delayed at all. That bill includes boosted unemployment benefits, an enhanced Child Tax Credit, expanded health insurance subsidies, and a third round of stimulus checks worth up to $1,400. On March 11, President Joe Biden signed a sweeping $1.9 trillion coronavirus aid package into law. Students find and select the passcode using a Hotspot Word Search. Students push the correct hieroglyph (like a passcode, just picture-based). Students select the right tool to escape the room. Students have to arrange the correct order of padlock turns and numbers in order to solve the puzzle. By only giving certain students a series of statements that are true, they are forced to work together to escape.īy using the Highlight Text question type, students can select the exact tools they need to complete the puzzle.Īlong their puzzle-solving adventures, students receive a drawing of a path (the red mark above) that gives them a password answer. Now we’re adding a new element to the escape: cooperation. For instance, using this cipher above, “ridgway” would become “kbwzptr”. This is the one I used in my example–and who doesn’t love some good ol’ bomb-defusing? Students will have to rearrange the order with which they cut the wires to solve this puzzle.Įssentially, this one takes a password and adds that students punch it into a cipher in order to get the real password. Students select the wrong answer, statement, fact, etc.Ī little bit more complicated than a PIN number, this one requires that students put in the correct letter and number relationship. You’ll see that I’ve arranged these from least to most intricate.Ī really easy way to start: the passcode could be a vocabulary term or something more arbitrary. Check out these 10 that I came up with on my own. Just remember, these clues aren’t arbitrary– students have to earn them by working with the content or skills particular to what you’re teaching that day.Ĭreating the puzzles in Classtime requires a bit of creativity but there are some really cool options that you can develop. Essentially, we’re going to be utilizing Classtime as a sort of “puzzle-hub” where students can type in answers, check their accuracy, and eventually, “escape”. Let’s show how Classtime can do both of these for you in some pretty awesome ways.Ī key to any escape room is the “puzzles” that participants have to solve in order to progress. In my experience, Classtime can:ġ) serve as a flexible platform for students to enter a diverse variety of clues and other passwords.Ģ) be used by students to self-track their “escape progress”. How to Use Classtime to Make Your (Perfect) Escape RoomĪlthough an assessment app like Classtime may not appear to be an “Escape Room” tool on the surface, it actually can serve as a really unique and helpful tool in your own creations. I didn’t want the number of puzzles or the skill needed to solve them to overwhelm the students and ultimately get in the way of them mastering the day’s objectives. Also, there’s actually only a couple of puzzles for students to complete, one through Google Forms (which was used as a differentiation checkpoint) and the other through Classtime (as an informal assessment and escape verifier). Let’s take a look at a really basic example, one from when I first introduced the idea of digital escape rooms to my high school students.īecause this was a new experience for nearly all of them, you’ll notice a lot of scaffolding involved, especially in the hyperlinked escape flowchart. Start with a two or three-step room and build from there. You don’t have to create comprehensive, super-elaborate digital escape rooms on your first go. Remember: if the whole process sounds intimidating, don’t worry. Instead, it makes them more attractive, and thus, more memorable. Ultimately, when it’s done right, a digital escape room doesn’t compromise the skills or content that you’re trying to teach. If a “typical” class entails your students dozing off, working on other material, playing on their phones, etc., you need to ask yourself, are they actually learning?Ĭonsider this super-scientific graph below: After all, their “lives” are on the line!Īs you’re reading this, it’s completely reasonable to think: why would I go through the trouble of creating digital escape rooms instead of “straight-up content”? One word: engagement. The idea is extremely innovative: it works with any content area, particular skill, or objective you’re teaching, and students are needless to say, extremely into it. The premise is relatively simple: players must complete a series of tasks in order to gain passwords, retrieve clues, or gather other information needed to “escape the room”– digitally, physically, or both. If you’re not familiar with the “Escape Room” (and increasingly digital escape rooms) phenomenon found across the U.S., you’re definitely missing out! Escape rooms have made their way into recreational entertainment, board games, and even Hollywood. It's certainly a process but, like many things in The Binding of Isaac, you'll find a rhythm as you start working your way through. When you are going through the Ascent after finding Dad's Note, you'll take a trip through each boss room you previously visited, but any trinket you've left behind will be transformed into the Cracked Key. You'll either need to carry it to the area or find the Cracked Key item, which is a consumable that has the same effect as the Red Key.Ī good tip for finding the Cracked Key is to drop any trinket item inside a boss room after you've defeated your enemy. Unfortunately, you won't continue to find the Red Key in Mom's Room in later runs. Touch that character to unlock them for future runs. It will open a hidden room with the tainted version of the character you are playing as inside. Go into the hall outside of Mom's Room and use the Red Key. You can now use this item to unlock Tainted Characters. Open the chest here to find the Red Key item, unlocking it for future runs. It isn't randomized like the other areas of The Binding of Isaac, so work your way through the few rooms and you'll get to Mom's Room. Go all the way through the Ascension and you'll reach a new area called Home. You'll find Dad's Note inside this room and you'll begin your ascension. Return to the starting room after defeating the boss, and you'll find a door that can be opened with The Polaroid, The Negative or the Faded Polaroid. Look for a slightly different skull somewhere in the level and bomb it in order to find a Fool card if you don't have teleportation. To find it, you'll need to defeat the boss and then teleport out of the room. This is a special item you'll be able to grab in the biome Depths II. You'll need to find Dad's Note on another run. This is a new boss added to the Repentance DLC, and you'll find her at the end of the Corpse II biome. You'll need to defeat Mother at least once. However, it is time consuming if you want to catch 'em all, and you need to string together a good run in order to reach the point where you can access them. Unlocking tainted characters is simple to explain, as the process is the same for each one. Here's how to unlock each tainted character and what makes them special. Even though they look like reskins of Cain, Isaac, Lilith, and the rest, most of them start with new items and abilities, effectively doubling the way you can begin a new run once they're unlocked. Every playable character in The Binding of Isaac: Repentance has a "tainted" version. How to Get Cash: The Plastic Bag Conundrum Photo from Disco Elysium Joyce – she’s located somewhere near the docks and can provide you with substantial cash to cover some of the things you need to pay.The gardener by the hotel’s backdoor has some ammonia that can help with that. The gardener – depending on how you’ve built your character, you may be easily repulsed by the dead body and might fail the skill check to investigate it further. She will tell you what you did to your gun. The woman on the phone – the police can connect you to the woman whose name pops up on your dialogue box while you’re talking to them. This will not be a pleasant call, but they can connect you to a woman who will give you an insight into what you have really done the previous nights. The police department – you may want to make some calls especially with your badge and gun missing. This gives you an idea of strategizing how you want to approach the town folks. The manager will tell you what impression people have of you and how they might react. The bartender/manager – some questionable events have happened in this hotel.Remember, this Disco Elysium guide will only walk you through getting started so remember these strategies as you move along. You will also find out that you’re missing your badge and your gun! You won’t find out where they are right away but talking to these people will give you enough clues. Talk to These People Photo from Disco ElysiumĪs your luck would have it, it’s not just your memory that you’ve lost. You may have to ask for some ammonia from the gardener to help you not throw up while looking at the body. Time is of the essence so do whatever it takes to get all the clues you can get from that crime scene. Head straight to the body after meeting that character. Head to the bar where you will meet a key character that will help you with this case. That is the right move, but don’t spend too much time talking to everyone. You will probably not head there immediately because you’re looking for clues as to what happened. On your first day, you will find out from the NPCs that the body of the victim is hanging on the tree right outside the hotel. Another one is the Suggestion which lets you influence non-playable characters (NPCs) easily.ĭo These Immediately Investigate the Body One of these is the Encyclopedia which allows you to pull up knowledge from your “internal voice” (more on this below) even without having a book open. Each of them gives you special advantages on skill checks. You will then choose a signature ability on top of the four skills. However, you immediately lose physical fights if you have a very poor physique. It will be a piece of cake to convince others to cooperate with you. Having high psyche points, for example, will make you very charismatic. It’s critical to buff at least two of these skills but make sure to leave some points for the others. Physique, as the name suggests, dictates your physical strength, and Motorics dictates your agility. Psyche has more to do with your emotional intelligence-how you influence others and how well you can persuade them to give up information during interviews. Intellect determines how well you gain insights from clues, crime scenes, and your conversations with people. You are given 12 points to distribute into four skills: Intellect, Psyche, Physique, and Motorics. A high level of perception will discover hidden paths and keys for example. The Beginning: Allocating Skill Points Screenshot from Steam While i was taking screen shots and writing stream of consciousness notes after my four hour play sessions, i wondered, how much am i missing out by having an intellect strong playthrough? How different will my intellect (6) and (2) on the rest, be from a playthrough that focuses on motorics, physique or psyche be? I mean, having certain skills uncover certain secrets and such. I write a master thesis about the use of signs in the game (multimodal semiotics) and how i emotionally, cognitively and perceptually react to them (cognitive science and Pontys phenomenology of perception) while i play the game. The second time it was for collecting material for my master thesis in rhetorics and communication at The University of Oslo. I just went through my second attempt at this game. |
